When is the best time to visit Seoul?

Spring (April-May) for cherry blossoms and Autumn (September-October) for clear skies and foliage are the best. Winters can be very cold (-10°C) and summers hot and humid.

Is Seoul safe for solo female travelers?

Seoul is ranked as one of the safest cities in the world. CCTVs are everywhere, and walking alone at night is generally very safe in major districts.

Do I need a Visa (K-ETA)?

It depends on your nationality. Many countries (US, UK, Japan, etc.) are temporarily exempt from K-ETA until Dec 2024, but please check the official K-ETA website for the latest updates.

How do I get an Immediate Tax Refund?

Show your passport at checkout in participating stores (Olive Young, Dept Stores). For purchases between 30,000 KRW and 500,000 KRW, tax is deducted instantly.

When are the big sale seasons?

Major sales happen in July (Summer Sale) and January (Korea Grand Sale). Department stores also have regular sales in April, June, October, and December.

Can I use credit cards everywhere?

Yes, 99% of places accept Visa/Mastercard. However, carry some cash for street food stalls and recharging T-Money cards.

Are clothing sizes different in Korea?

Yes, Korean "Free Size" usually fits XS to M. If you are L or XL, look for oversized fit brands or international brands like H&M/Zara.

Which transport card should I buy?

The "T-Money" card is standard. For short-term tourists, the "Climate Card" (unlimited rides) or "Discover Seoul Pass" might be better value.

Does Uber work in Seoul?

Yes, the Uber app works (rebranded as UT), calling local taxis. However, "Kakao T" is the dominant local app and finds taxis much faster.

What time does the subway stop?

Most lines stop running around 12:00 AM - 12:30 AM. Night buses ("N-Bus") operate from midnight to 4 AM on major routes.

AREX Express vs. All-Stop Train?

Express goes non-stop to Seoul Station (43 mins, reserved seat). All-Stop takes 60 mins but is cheaper and stops at Hongdae. If staying in Hongdae, take All-Stop.

Does Google Maps work in Korea?

Not well for walking directions due to security laws. We strongly recommend downloading "Naver Map" or "Kakao Map" (both have English).

Is public WiFi good?

Seoul has excellent public WiFi in subways and cafes. However, for constant connectivity on streets, an eSIM or Pocket WiFi is recommended.

Do I need a power adapter?

Korea uses Type C / Type F plugs (two round pins) and 220V standard voltage. Bring a universal adapter.

What is the best translation app?

"Papago" is much better than Google Translate for Korean. It handles photos (menus) and voice conversations very well.

Is there a tipping culture?

No. Tipping is NOT required and can sometimes be considered rude. The price you see on the bill is the final price (tax included).

Can I eat alone in restaurants?

Yes, "Hon-bap" (eating alone) is common now. However, some BBQ places may require a minimum order of 2 servings.

Do I need to take off my shoes?

In some traditional restaurants (floor seating) and guesthouses, yes. If you see a shoe rack at the entrance, remove your shoes.

Is bargaining acceptable?

Only in underground shopping malls or traditional markets if paying cash. Not in department stores or brand shops.
